This truck has really earned its keep
With a little over 1,500,000kms on the clock it would be reasonable to suggest that this truck is well used.
The truck belonging to Rob and Lee-Ann Clements, RL Clements Crane and Transport is a 2005 Isuzu FV5 950 mounted with a HIAB crane.
It’s a unit that is undoubtedly testimony to being meticulously serviced since brand new.
Rob has fastidiously had this truck serviced on time since purchasing it and the good thing is that it still runs reliably and seems likely to do so for some time to come.
He’s not new to running trucks for a fair distance. His previous unit had over 800,000kms on the clock before being replaced.
The business was initially contracted to the State Water Board for lifting and carrying piping, machinery, concrete forms and so on around Western Australia, delivering to some of the most remote pumping stations in the outback.
As a result, Rob is familiar with finding his way to pumping stations via some of the most remote tracks in localities ranging from Kalgoorlie to Pemberton and beyond.
The contract with the Water Board ended a few years ago, as a result of them altering their system so since then he has operated independently undertaking an amazing array of tasks.
‘Having a crane on the back has really been the passport to getting work’, Rob says.
The rig can lift 1 tonne with 12.4ms span or up to 3.2 tonnes when in close within a 4.5metre range.
‘The truck and I have undertaken jobs such as lifting and carrying a large swim spa to an inland property out from Geraldton, lifting and carrying air conditioner units, items for house and factory builds – you name it the rig has undertaken a particularly wide range of tasks,’ he said.
He has even taken large trees from nurseries, delivering them to the required site and gently placing them in the holes dug out to receive the trees. The capabilities of a truck with a crane are endless.

Rob and the truck regularly worked at least 6 days a week, but he says, now that he’s reached 60 years, he has slowed down to a 5day working week.
And what’s the future of the truck?
It’s still going well…a testimony, he says to Isuzu, Rob’s attention to having it regularly serviced and he says, the advantage of having Major’s keeping an eye on it – to pick up anything likely to falter has resulted in this unit still having plenty of kilometres left to go.
